How do you choose the best shampoo and conditioner you will use for the next few months? Is it from the cute packaging? Is it because you saw it in an ad somewhere?
Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is so important because these two products are what make up most of your hair care routine. Even if you are someone who doesn’t put much attention to your hair, you still use shampoo and conditioner (I hope!).
So, how do you know if it is the right one? Well, this all depends on the type of hair you have. Is it oily, dry, curly, straight, colored, or dull? The first step is to determine your hair type.
My hair, for example, is color-treated, oily, and wavy. This means that I need a clarifying, color safe shampoo with a moisturizing conditioner. A clarifying shampoo will better help dissolve build-up, provide a deeper clean for your scalp, and keep your hair clean longer. Color safe shampoos are important because they are specifically formulated to help protect your color.
I have wavy hair, but if you have curlier hair, a hydrating conditioner is a must! The structure of curly hair slows the process of your natural oils hydrating the rest of your hair. The individual strand of curly hair also tends to be more fragile so it is prone to damage a lot quicker than someone with straighter hair.
For my curly haired audience, CONDITION! And condition with a very hydrating product. Your curls will thank you.
If you have very straight, thin hair, you want to use a shampoo and conditioner that does not weigh your hair down. Look for products that create volume for your hair. Heavy shampoo and conditioners will only make your hair feel greasy, so a clarifying shampoo and a light conditioner works great for this hair type.
If you can categorize your hair into specific hair types, you are on your way to selecting the perfect shampoo and conditioner for your hair.
